I have a list of these - but its in the room in which my 20 month old grandson is sleeping! I'll have a look tomorrow, it might be later on Friday evening as I have to go out a.m.

Hello TP  :)

Welcome to Rootschat!

There is a booklet available to purchase from Swansea City Council:

Portreeves and Mayors of Swansea by J.R.Alban

Best Wishes

Thanks Morgan, your guidance is very appreciated. I was hoping you would answer. I have noted your responses to past queries. :)

I have previously found that publication and it is not practical to acquire. There is no cost effective or reasonable method to have it delivered to the United States. They do not accept credit for the purchase, and no bank here (at least where I live) will issue a check in British Pounds. I could send actual pounds, but that is not practical either.

I would gladly pay for access to an online site, but alas none exists.

I am specifically for looking for the last names of Jones, Phillips or Stephens during those years.

Thanks again, :)

Bernard,

Thanks for your reply, you are very kind to offer your assistance.

As you can see in my reply to Morgan, I am looking for Jones, Stephens, or Phillips.

Good idea, don't disturb the child while sleeping.

John Alban was formerly the City Archivist at Swansea Council; I know him as a former colleague and he was also the tutor on my local history course! He kindly wrote the foreword to my 'Swansea Pals' book.

Its his booklet that I have. For info Portreeves were essentially the forerunners of the Mayors - basically we only have (Lord) mayors now in Swansea; all Portreeves are historic.

For the period and names you quote there is only Daniel Jones, Mayor in 1951. Is he of interest? I have another book that gives a page or so of info on each mayor up to the early 1970s. I could copy Jones's entry if it is of interest, for your personal research needs. Message me your personal e-mail if you want that, please.
