Always assuming, of course, that Fanny May is the same person as Fanny Stone? ;D

That had occured to me too!

If the Fanny May from Inkpen married Oliver Green ...

Roaming Granny - what evidence have you got that Fanny Stone, the housekeeper, was nee MAy?
As I said in an earlier post, can we have details about her children - or at least the one that is in your line? Ws He/She as Stone or a May? When/where born? FOund on censuses? Always best to start with what you know and work back!

Don't think this is going to help any but there is a MAY / STONE marriage
can't be the Fanny May born 1860 you are looking for because of the date ???

10th Dec 1868 Parish of Islington
Fanny MAY f/a spinster father William Farm Baliff
Henry STONE f/a Clerk , one witness named Elizabeth May

Thank you to everyone who replied, very much appreciated.  I have been chasing this for years and must admit that I do not know for sure if Fanny Stone was Fanny May, but thought a Marriage Cert. would be easy to find and clear up the mystery.  The child born to Fanny was Emily May, basebron in the Hungerford Workhouse in 1879, so no Stone name at that time.  No mention of Fathers name at all.
I have Fanny on the 1861 Census age 1, 1871 age 11, 1881 age 21, all with her parents John & Emma and siblings living in Inkpen.  She disappears after that and I have tried in vain to find her Death as Fanny May. As I am now a Great Grandmother myself I know I am running out of time with this
search, so I am really clutching at straws. Sorry.
Again, my thanks to all.

So - have you ruled out that your Fanny May married Oliver Green in 1886?

That seems to be the most likely scenario as to what happened to her.

lizdb,
I have not ruled anything out.  I think it may be in my best interest to get a copy of the May/Green marriage cert. and at least that would prove one way or another.  It is frustrating looking from such a long way off.  Of course there are probably thousands in the same boat, but it would be nice to make a trip to the records office and have a look.  Will probably have to bite the bullet and fork out the 9.25 and satisfy myself one way or another.  I really apprecxiate all the comments and interest shown.  This site has been good to me over the years.  Thanks again.
