Four ANDREW girls. COMPLETE Thank you
« on: Friday 26 October 12 21:23 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I am busy working on my ANDREW family tree, and have come accross a person who thinks there may be four more daughters.

Parents are James and Jane ANDREW and childre are....
Jane b 1863 in Cornwall
William Jeffery b 865 in Victoria, Australia
Five children also born and died in australia who's names and sates I have but can't find just at the moment as we have just shifted.
Edward b 1873 in Ross, NZ
Henry b 1876 in Ross,NZ
John Blight b 1878 in Ross, NZ
Sarah Tangye b 1882 in Ross, NZ

The four in question are Elizabeth Ellen b 1874,
Caroline Jane b 1875
Lilly b 1877
Daisy b 1880

These dates are all possible for them to have been children of Janes, and on the NZ BDM it has these four girls listed as having parents as James and Jane.

I would like to know please is there any indication of where the four girls attend school? Or their birth place? I am not convinced on shelling out money for certs yet as on both James and Jane deaths cert it states Males 4 and their ages which fit to my info and only 1 female info also fits.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Gail

Went to the library on my way to Supermarket and looked at the BDM fiche for registration districts.

Edward, Henry, John Blight and Sarah Tangye were all registered Ross, which is Westland.

Elizabeth Ellen and Caroline Jane were registered Shortland, which is Thames area
Lilly and Daisy were both registered Thames.

There is a Lily ANDREWS buried in the Shortland (Thames) Cemetery in early 1879.

I would be inclined to think there were two families.

Althea here on RC might be able to help with the Thames ones.

Thank you for that Ian.....I had missed one of those babies, yes two sets of twins, must have been so terribly sad to loose so many babies, I believe this may have been one of the contributing factors for James and Jane coming to New Zealand, I do know some of James brothers also were in Australia at the same time they were.

Thank you for stopping at library while out and about I really appreciate it...........I had a "hunch" the four girls were not part of my family, as far as I know the family lived in Ross (when they came to NZ) and Wanganui later, where they both died and are buried.

Will think carefully how to bring up the subject with this lady who has combined the two families.

What did your James do.

There is mention in one of the Thames newspapers on Paperspast of a James Andrew there in November 1874, to do with finding a skeleton in a mineshaft.

Do you have exact dates for the Ballarat ones or just from the VIC BDMs.

No don't have exact dates. As far as I know my James was a miner also, copper and tin in Cornwall, then gold in Australia. Have only just thought to look for him on electoral rolls.....but as the library is closed it will have to wait. I guess this may tell me if there are two James ANDREW. I know he had a farm on Springvale rd in Wanganui, but he may have been quite a bit older by then.

1880-1881 Electoral Roll has a James ANDREW at Ross, a miner and a James ANDREW at Mary Street, Shortland, a miner

1890 James Harris ANDREW is in Hokitika, still a miner

1896 James Harris and Jane ANDREW are at Springvale in Wanganui.

1900 Jane still at Springvale, with son JB at home.

Two different familes.

Hopefully these will show up.

Photos of ANDREW grave at Ballarat Cemetery taken about half an hour ago, 9am Ballarat time.

Not by me, but by a relly who lives near there.
