Harley Turner
« on: Thursday 25 October 12 12:01 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information on Harley Turner who was born in Aston, Birmingham in June 1914. He was the son of my Grand Aunt, Mary Emma McGrath who married Harley Turner in Aston and their only child was Harley (junior).
Harley senior, some records have his name as Arley, had the middle name Llewelyn, and died in 1961, again in Birmingham.
Family stories have Harley junior as a paratrooper in WW2 with one saying he was a casualty in Crete, another saying at Arnhem. The CWGC website has no record of either. However, death records say that Harley Turner, born in 1914 died aged 74 in Aston in 1989.
I would be grateful for any information about Harley junior.
Mary Emma died in 1919 and Harley senior married again to Ethel Perry and for several years Harley junior was "adopted" by his mother's sister, Kathleen Dodd (nee McGrath) in Birkenhead.
Many thanks.
Jim McGrath

MIght be a good idea to get his death cert, to see who the informant was.

Cant see a marriage for him.

Also worth looking to see if he left a will.

Are to H Turner, who fought at Arnhem and were taken Prisoners, could be wounded, hence being named/mentioned as casualty?

Is this the same person?  Arley Llewellyn Turner b Dec 1891 to Alfred Charles Llewellyn Turner and Emma Bache, There is a Harley Llewellyn Turner d 1961 and buried at Witton Cemetery.  This sounds like the Arley Llewellyn Turner, Senior you mention.

Hello, thank you for your reply. Sorry to learn of your grandad passing back in 1989. My mother in law is Ida Phipps.  Her mum is Cecilia Turner. Cecilia died back in the 1950s when Ida was a young girl. She never knew her mum's family just knew some names.  She also had an aunt Ida Turner Horton to which she was named after. Ida is an only child, age 76 now. Her grand parents are Alfred Llewellyn Turner and Emma Bache. Love to hear from you.

Thank you for your reply. Sadly we don't know much about our family tree/history as we've just started looking into it. Unfortunately my mother doesn’t recognise any of the names that you mentioned. My sister wondered if Alfred Llewellyn Turner could be my grandads Uncle or Grandfather. Do you think there could be a family connection?
