Hello

I am seeking any information on the lineage of my great-grandmother
Hannah Eugenia Lane (Tailoress 24 Yrs), BD circa 1861 East Street, Lambeth London; DD Chatswood NSW circa 1928, 68 yrs
Her mother may have been Mary Coplin, and father may have been William Lane (bootmaker)

The attached photo is her married family with 5 chldren (taken circa 1904?):
she married Wilhelm Kölln on 28.3.1885

Thanks in advance

Since I found some references to the Kollns being in Canley Vale: could this be Hannah's mother's death in Australia in 1889?
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13717842?searchTerm=%22Canley%20Vale%22%20%22William%20Lane%22

Also someone else looking for this family:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,471233.0.html

ETA: also at Hannah's death siblings Mrs Reimer, Mr and Mrs G Bell, Mr and Mrs G Lane are mentioned:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/16488100?searchTerm=Hannah%20Kolln&searchLimits=

Mr and Mrs G Bell may be George R. Bell m. Susan M Lane in 1900; Susan M Lane b. 1878 Sydney parents William and Mary, suggesting that the Lane family came to NSW together, possibly when Hannah was a teenager or even earlier on.

I have just had a look at William LANE's death certificate - 28 December 1902 at (his son?) George LANE's house at Riverstone.

Boot Maker
Aged 67
Born England
Married Mary COPLING in London aged 19
Parents' names not known

Children:

Living

Hannah E. (42)
Ada E. (34)
George (32)
Susan M. (23)

Deceased

2 Males
4 Females

26 years in New South Wales
10 years in other colonies

I think that daughter Sarah Elizabeth died at Lambeth in the March quarter of 1861, and William and Mary came to Australia with Hannah and Harriet.

Children born in Victoria:

Thomas Henry LANE
Father:    William LANE
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Birth Place:    South Yarra, Victoria
Registration Year:    1867
#24749

Ada Eliza LANE
Father:    William LANE
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Birth Place:    Emerald Hill, Victoria
Registration Year:    1869
#8574

George LANE
Father:    William LANE
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Birth Place:    Emerald Hill, Victoria
Registration Year:    1871
#8852

Angelina LANE
Father:    Wm LANE
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Birth Place:    Emerald Hill, Victoria
Registration Year:    1873
#16418

Deaths in Victoria:

Harriett LANE
Age:    1
Father:    William
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Registration Year:    1867
#7056

Thomas Henry LANE
Age:  3 Months
Father:    William
Mother:    Mary COPLING
Registration Year:    1868
#2568

Death in NSW:

Angelina LANE
Died:    1875
Father:    William
Mother:    Mary
at Glebe
#3028

I think this is the likely birth and death of the seventh girl:

Alice Anna LANE
Born:  1875
Father:  William
Mother:  Mary
at Glebe
#3934

Alice A. LANE
Died: 1888
Father:  William
Mother:  Mary
at Liverpool
#8884

LANE - February 17, 1888, at her parents residence, Canley Vale, Alice Annie, the dearly beloved daughter of William and Mary Lane, aged 12 years and 6 months, after a short but painful illness. Inserted by her loving sister Ada, Glebe Point.

There is still one male child missing.

If Harriet was baptised at Lambeth on 11 July 1866 and died in Victoria in 1867 (also the year that Thomas was born) then that narrows down the date of immigration.  Unfortunately I cannot find any record, but perhaps others can have a look.

jorose and dundee, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.
what wonderful folk you all are!  :)
Big family, and such hardships to lose so many children, indeed it seems Mary may not have surived long past Alice's death.

*******************************************
I have other news also from another cousin of mine who has some resources...

New South Wales Assisted Immigrant Passenger:
(p62) Hannah E Lane Aged 30 arrived 3.Febraury.1885 aboard SS Gulf of Venice, Domestic from Middlesex, C of E, (Husb or Wife) Yes
confirmed http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/1885/02/012gul.htm
*******************************************

Further to this from other records, her husband, (From naturalisation certificate) Wilhelm Kölln, Elmshorn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Arrived in Australia from London 8.5.1864 aboard the Phelicea embarking at Melbourne, leaving Victoria in 1880 and settling in Canley Vale as Fruit Grower.
From NSW marriage certificate 1885/004679 Married Hannah Eugenia Lane Spinster of England on 28 March 1885 at Liverpool, both resident of Canley Vale, Father parents: Matthias Kolln and Katherine Groth, Mother's parents: William Lane and Mary Coplin.

So if this is the same Hannal E Lane?
it seems there is an age discrepancy of 5 years. Would she deliberately put her age up?
Also, did they know each other beforehand? Certainly interesting.

Also, i am chasing up the possibility of Wilhelm's spelling of Phelicea being the ship Felicia, mentioned http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/5747680

Have to run...
