John Bowbrick served initially with the Hampshire regiment - Private No. 35160. He was either wounded or became ill and when he was sufficiently recovered he was transferred to the Labour Corps - Private, No. 106259.

He was entitled to the Victory Medal and the British war Medal, both of them have Labour Corps references.

He has no date of entry into a theatre of war on his medal card - so he would not have gone overseas before the beginning of 1916.

Charles Bowbrick, Private 1599, East Surrey Regiment. He went to France on 31st August 1915. He was entitled to the 1915 Star, Victory and British War medals. He was demobbed to the Class Z Reserves on 21st March 1919.

Sidney Bowbrick Private 3/5518 Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry - entered France on 10th December 1914 - he had been in the Special Reserve before the outbreak of the war. He should have been entitled to the 1914 Star, Victory and British War Medals, but, according to the entry on his medal card, he deserted from the army and forfeited his medals.

Didn't find anything on the other two,

There is nothing on his medal card that would tell us what happened to Sidney, other than the fact that he deserted, none of his papers appear to have survived.

In your original post you had a Gerald Bowbrick, killed 30/6/16 - there is no record of this man [either by name or number] on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, nor does he appear to have a medal card entry, might I ask where you got the original information from?

Hi jds :) thank you about Sidney
the info came from the 1914-1918 great war forum. www.1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums this was over a year ago. it seams to me that the person who entered the info was talking from personal knowledge, did not give his name.
all the best Bruce.

NA Air is referring to the National Archives (NA) record series AIR 79 documents - AIR 79 being the reference to their holdings of WW1 RAF service records (other ranks).

William James Bowbrick is there - full reference: AIR 79/565/62029 (see http://tinyurl.com/9tfgrqr)

Don't expect too much from this, these records are fairly minimal, really just a list of postings and promotions.

From the muster roll available via FindMyPast he was a rigger (Air Mech 1) service number 62029..

Hi Bruce,

I have checked the archive at GWF and the only hit for Gerald Bowbrick is in a posting from 2nd February 2003 from an Ian Bowbrick [grandson of William] who lists him as a cousin of Charles, John, William and Sidney. He posts that Gerald served in Russia, presumably as part of the forces sent to Archangel in 1918 -1919. No mention of his being killed.

I have been unable to find this man's medal card either on Ancestry or on the National Archives website.
