George Dyer
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 18:25 BST (UK) »
I am looking for help to find the maiden name of George's bride!
He married Harriet Ann in the registration district of Thakeham in 1875 (Q4) but the only records I have found show her as Harriet Ann Dyer so i am guessing this is wrong.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

There is a Harriett Ann Dyer for Oct/Nov/Dec 1875 Thakeham - but no George Dyer on the same page.
The grooms are George Oliver and James Joyes, so Harriett Ann Dyer married either of them.

Was the wedding definitely in Sussex?

There is a George Dyer

Cuckfield Sussex
1st quarter 1870
2B 165

On the same page is a Harriet Goacher

Sorry - ignore that, just found him in the 1871 census, he married the other person on the page Mary Ann Nye.

When you say the only records you have found show her as Harriet Dyer. which records are they? Have you found them with any children, if so one of  the children's birth certificates would show Harriet's maiden name.

There appear to be only 2 marriages in Sussex between 1837 and 1881 of a George Dyer to a possible Harriet. The one I gave you by mistake and one in Dec quarter 1861in Hambledon possible bride Harriet Mitchell.

Hi All!
Thanks for the info so far. I am now thinking I have some generation mix ups with my original query.
I believe George Oliver married Harriett Dyer. They had a daughter called Ellen Edith Oliver who married Fred May Dyer. Fred's father was called George Dyer! But that then brings me the question - was Harriett reated to George Dyer?? How are they related?? If they are (and it would be a really huge coincidence if they weren't!) then these 2 families are intertwined!!!
Confused!!!

Are you sure his father was George Dyer?

Ellen Edith Oliver married Fred May Dyer  1904  East Preston

Fred May Dyer was born June quarter 1880 Portsea Island Hampshire.

1901 census  RG 13/ 978/93/33  Portsmouth

John C Dyer  55    Shipwright     Littlehampton
Lucy Dyer      58                             Portling
George B Dyer  25                          Landport Hampshire
Fred M Dyer     20  Engine fitter    Landport Hampshire

POB and occupation fit with later census.

You need to find if there is any connection between Harriet Dyer and John Dyer,

According to the 1891 census, Ellen was born in Worthing in 1879. Her mother Harriet Oliver (nee Dyer) was born in Littlehampton - same town as John Dyer.

I cant find Harriet or John in earlier censuses at the moment
