Hamburg Customs Officers, 1800/1870
« on: Sunday 21 October 12 13:25 BST (UK) »
Can any one please direct me to any archives that might exist for Hamburg Customs Officers for the period 1800 to 1870.
My ancestor was said to have lived in the city and was recorded as having been a "Controleur, Zollamt" which I think means Customs Office Controler. The French spelling I assume is from Napoleons influence on the running of the area about that time.
Any sighting of this mans file/record as an Officer would, I think, reveal details of his family, especially his children, the details of one in particular (my Great-grandfather) will go a long way to helping me complete my family tree.
Regards
Frederick
