« on: Saturday 20 October 12 16:24 BST (UK) »
Hi there

Looking for a little help on my family tree,

Information from the family says that John Stewart born 08 November 1910, died 1972 married Margaret Young Fordie 1935 in Glasgow, I have no information on John's parents or siblings so any help would be appreciated, parents were John Stewart and Helen Smith.

thanks

David

Hi

Quote
John Stewart born 08 November 1910

Where was he born?

Have you checked the 1911 census for the family which will give you parents ages and birthplaces

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - pay per view only.  You will need to purchase credits

The above website can also be used to view the marriage of his parents which will give you their respective parents names and mothers maiden names

Hi Carole

I have checked the census but i think that the family information isn't correct, they say that john was born in Dunoon but no births were there and no luck checking that area for the census either.

thanks

David

Hi David

Have you actually seen John's 1935 marriage cert to confirm some of the details you have? Should be available to view online on SP. You might get some clues on names from witnesses etc. also.

Can you post details on the family you found in 1911 for additional background?

There is a marriage on SPs

1935 groom STEWART JOHN married  bride FORDIE   MARGARET YOUNG   PARTICK   GLASGOW CITY/LANARK   644/14 0337

As Carole says it's pay per view but that will give you both sets of parents and via SP you can use that info to go back in time. Places of birth on census are often wrong and I can't find a John Stewart born between 1900 and 1920 in Argyllshire so chances are he was born somewhere else.

Moderator Comment: I have taken off the link to the family tree. A number of the people you have listed there are alive and current. As mentioned a number of times, RootsChat is all about tracing ancestors and details of people who are living should not be included in order to protect their privacy and identity.
