Trainors (original spelling Traynor) from Armagh to Philadelphia 1870's
« on: Saturday 20 October 12 15:58 BST (UK) »

I'm searching for Trainors (original spelling Traynor) from Armagh, Ireland  who emigrated from Scotland to Philadephia around 1875. Patrick (sometimes called Peter) Trainor was born c. 1838 in Armagh. He had a brother James b. c. 1840 and a brother Terence and sister Catherine. Their parents were John Traynor a blacksmith and Margaret O'Hare.

Patrick married Jane McMillan / McMullan in Glasgow, Scotland in 1860. They had several children. Jane died in 1886.

James married Catherine O'Rourke in Glasgow in 1864. They moved to Philadelphia around 1875 with their three children John, Owen & Margaret. They had a daughter Mary in Philadelphia c. 1878, and I think a son James J. They are on the 1881 Census living in McElrainey St. Patrick (Peter) was living there with them. James was a blacksmith and Patrick was a boilermaker.  Any information as to what happened to these Trainors after this and if there are any descendants of theirs still living there, would be much appreciated.

Just come across a family tree that says James born 22 February 1883 died 1900 and Catherine 1930 (no sources)
The name of James's wife was Elizabeth Shannon died 1958 (no source)

If the above date of birth was correct then this is the WW2 Draft for James - 22 February 1883  - 2444 South Watts Street, Philadelphia.
Person who will always know him Robert Fleming 1241 Durfor Street, Phila. Pennsylvania.
Employers Name and Address:- Philadlephia Navy Yard.

Hi Sandra.

Thank you for all your replies to my posting. It is very much appreciated.

First - My Margaret does not have a middle name. I have a copy of her birth cert. There is a possibility she could be the one of the Trainors I am looking for as there are a lot of similarities such as where her parents were born and her brother James J. Trainor.

Regarding the Trainor family at 1900 McKean Street, I had come across them before but was a little unsure if they are my Trainors as the year of arrival in Philadelphia was 1874 and not 1876.

Hi again Sandra,

You are very kind to go to all this trouble for me. I am going to digest all the information and see if it leads me to my Trainors.

I had been trying to find a death notice for Patrick (Peter) Trainor who was my great great grandfather. He died, I think, around 1886 but I have not had any luck in finding a record for his death.

Once again, thank you for all your help. I'll go over the information you have sent me very carefully and see if I find any clues to help me confirm if any of them are my ancestors.

Thanks Sinead
