MORBEY
« on: Saturday 20 October 12 15:27 BST (UK) »
I am trying to help a friend trace his family tree but have hit a brick wall. I am trying to trace a Sarah A Morbey born around 1862 but Morbey is her married name. She married a John Thomas Morbey in about 1881. Both are from Northampton. I can find them on the 1881, 1891 and 2001 census but no marriage to give her maiden name.

In the 1881 census, they are living with a family called Mawby :-\

Are you sure the surname is Morbey?

I am just saying that, if you look at the original page from the 1881 census, in the same house is a Mawby family, and then John Thomas an Sarah.

Then there's this from 1871:

On the1871 census William has the surname clearly Morbey but his son John is Mawby.  The James in 1881 is his brother. The marriage Claire.t found is the only one close. On the 1861 census William is Morby.

Hi
I have a Morby line from Huntingdonshire, and the spellings vary all the time from Mawby to Morbey and even Morley, so I am not surprised to see all these variations, although it doesn't make it any easier to find them!
