Charles & Ethel PATMORE
« on: Friday 19 October 12 10:25 BST (UK) »
Any help really appreciated re Charles and Ethel Patmore please. I have recently discovered my granfather had a half brother (same mother) called Charles Henry PATMORE born Leyton 1888. After distinguised service in Royal Artillery he married Ethel Richardson in 1916 and after leaving the army in 1920 moved to 54 Old Dover Road Blackheath London.
From here there is a complete blank - did they have children? What was his occupation? Where can I go to find out anything about them.
Thanks for your help and guidance.

Looking at the death index, the best fit I have is Charles Patmore (no middle name) d Q2 1961 Essex South Western; this links (perhaps, I don't have a subscription to this bit) with probate of one Mella Charles Henry Patmore in 1961.

Lots of material on a namesake who was an Australian Army chaplain, killed as a result of Allied bombing of Amboina in 1943, but his date of birth is substantially wrong and was son of Mr and Mrs O Patmore of Waltham Cross.

FreeBMD indexes his marriage to Ethel; she has a middle iinitial M. There are a number of possible death records for an Ethel M Patmore; would be worth getting the marriage cert to find out what her middle name was and therefore trace her b and d.

I've checked two separate indexes and can find no Patmore births 1916-30 with mother's maiden name Richardson. However, if Ethel had previously been married (might have been a war widow) then any births wouldn't show up. Would need the m certificate to be sure of her maiden name.

Might be worth trying street directories of the 1920sand 1930s; long shot would be the phone book, but as comparatively few people had phones then.....

Wow - I cannot believe the level of response and the speed. I can confirm that Ethel's middle name was Mary. Thank you everyone for your help so far.
