Recent Birth Registered Twice???
« on: Wednesday 17 October 12 17:09 BST (UK) »
I should probably know the answer to this but I don't so could someone tell me if they know please.

I was not married when I had two of my children they appear in the records in both my name and in their fathers name, surely as he was there when the births were registered and their birth certificates only have their fathers name on it,  I do of course mean surname, surely it would only need one entry.

Thanks.

The birth is only registered once, but when the parents are unmarried the birth is always indexed under both the mother and father's name, you will see that they both have the same reference details.

Ahhh right.  Thank you.

Must say I am surprised in this day and age when so many people have children "out of wedlock".

The birth indexed twice under the father's and the mother's surnames as it is not known which surname the child will use.

My great nephew has 3 entries - one under his mother, one under his father and one under the double barrelled name he is known as.  ;D ;D
