Looking for descendants of William John Ramsay / Elizabeth Bottom

William John Ramsay of Shetland Islands arrived signed off the Admiralty collier ss Mercedes on 24 Jul 1902 in Wellington, NZ. Married Elizabeth Bottom of West Coast in 1905 and had four children: Vera Isabel; Donald (or Ronald); Albert Edward; and William Maxwell.

Death of a William Maxwell Ramsay, 1983. Date of birth stated as 21.2.1916.

If this is your William Maxwell, there is a probate in Christchurch archives. 1983. His occupation was that of Pram maker.

A little more on the Ramsay family............

Albert Edward died 1962 aged 52 years. A probate is held @ Christchurch archives (1963).

A. E. Ramsay was a painter from Reefton.

My grandmother was born in Yell, Ann Catherine Ramsay - not a relative of yours.

Tony,

Looks like we both have Ann Catherine Ramsay from Yell, Shetland in our family trees.

The only problem is that, yours was born in 1857 while mine was born a few miles away in 1874.  Sadly, they are not related. 

In Shetland we have a large online database that is run by Tony Gott from Sellafirth, nr Basta, North Yell.  Would be pleased to get an update on the New Zealand side of your family. 

My website gives links to many of the important online sites.

I am planning to visit Shetland in July/August, to take some photographs, do some family history research in the archives and visit a couple of 2nd cousins.  I presently live on the South Coast of England.
