Dorothy Ward was born in North Duffield in 1912 her birth is registered at Selby Yorkshire. Her parents were Charles and Gertrude Ward. The Ward family moved to Chepstow between 1925 and 1928 so I would guess that Dorothy went with them.I  believe she remained in the area as her second marriage to Seymour Griffiths was in October 1945 was I think in the Chepstow area.

Between 1928 & 1945 only one Dorothy Ward married in Chepstow. In Jul-Sep 1939 she married Ethelbert Andrews  - Vol 11A page 35. No appropriate deaths found in Monmouthshire 1939-1945. The death of a Bert Andrews (32) was registered in Bristol Oct-Dec 1939 Vol 6A page 79. It is possible that tunnel deaths were registered in Bristol. No other apossible deaths found in Gloucestershire in the period. How sure are you about Clark (e) and did Dorothy have any initials?

More likely to be registered in the Thornbury registration district?
Pilning (or Redwick), where the tunnel starts is some 10 miles from Bristol
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you both for your help. I have no records for Dorothy showing additional initials. The name Clark[e] is I think a wild guess of a cousin. I`ll see if the name Ethelbert Andrews rings any bells with the family. Would there be a website that has details of the railway accident or perhaps a newspaper report?

there's at least one newspaper report which you can access here, under the first name Bert

http://secure.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/

He was a ganger for the GWR, died 27/10. If he died in hospital in Bristol, his death would be registered there.

On FreeBMD there ia a record of a Dorothy Ward marrying either Eric Goodhall (Goodhall) or William H Henson (wesley) or Edward O Precious (Palframan).......mothers' maiden names in brackets

This was in the Sept Qtr of 1912 in the Selby Reg. District....which covers North Duffield.

Thanks again for your help. The info from the newspaper archives is interesting. If Bert was Dorothy Wards first husband it was sadly a very short marriage.
Not sure about the other possible husbands for Dorothy. She was born in 1912 and her mothers maiden name was Blanchard. I`m pretty certain that she married in the Chepstow area and according to cousins that I have only recently found she continued to live in that area until her death.
