Just a thought, but in 1932, 56 High st. would have been almost next door to the George Hotel, and behind no. 56 would have been the George Hotel garages, it must have been a busy place, ideal for someone who was either a motor mechanic, or a chauffeur............Del.

Hi,

The No.56 was the first premises in the row of shops before the George Hotel which was No 60-62 and the row of shops were originally called Waterloo House.Above the shops were lovely Bay windows which are shown in a "Grantham" book by Malcolm Knapp ISBN No.978-0-7524-5024-7 Page 64 and another one in "Grantham Revisited" by Fred Leadbetter.ISBN. No. 0-7524-3825-5 Page 50.Plus another in  "Around Grantham" by Fred Leadbetter ISBN.No.0-7524-1863-7
So it is possible that there were flats/living accommodation above the shops. When I remember No.56 it was a Hilton's Shoe shop before it was pulled down.
