There is an interesting will of a William Williamson, Gentleman of Ince dated 1st October, 1737 but not sworn until 2nd May, 1750.  Apart from his wife Sarah it mentions his brother Robert , sisters Elizabeth Ryder and Alice Helsall and a nephew Robert Ryder.  When Sarah dies it goes to Robert and if Robert has already died it is to go to any of his legitimate children that may be born. Therefore, brother Robert hasn`t any children in October, 1737.

Robert marries a Margery Hayes December, 1739 at St. Michaels, Chester.  According to the Licence he was 30 or thereabouts! and she was 27.  He was a yeoman of Ince.

Alice married a Richard Helsall at St. Oswalds, Chester 6th June, 1834.  The licence states he was 34 and of Elton in the Parish of Thornton and she was 24 of Ince.

Elizabeth married John Ryder on 5th June, 1731 at St. Oswalds, Chester.  The licence states he was 24 and she was 28 of Ince.

I think William married a Mistress Sarah Griffiths on 20th April, 1733.

hey all thanks... Mr Jones.. I have connected with every possible resource I think, the web, Na, books from the library and visited St James, Newchapel last Sunday.
Marg.. have been checking the Na for wills and probate but obviously not searching correctly. Hugh henshall was Robert's son .. thank you...
Mossifish... very interesting.. having checked the igi's for Ince
John Williamson m Alice Edmonson 1 sept 1695
William 1696... if so, he died at 41yrs, his younger brother Robert 1702 m. Margery Hayes 1/1/2/1739 so that ties in with it being left to Sarah or to him or any legitmate children
Elizabeth C. 1698 and 1702
Alice c. 1709
there are several other children and need to do some more research, but it seem's to fit. John described himself as an engineer on his mariage to Ann Brindley and had close ties to Hugh Henshall her brother, who worked with James brindley and finnished the Trent and Mersey canal.. again more research.... thanks a lot...

I have a will (proved about 1784) and in it Edward Salmon of Hassall Hall, Sandbach left legacies to the two daughters of Mr James Brindley the engineer.

Mr Jones, no reason to apologize, I may be able to help... are you local to the area?? I have just borrowed a book from the library....James Brindley Canal Engineer. A New perpective by Kathleen M Evans , published by Churnet Valley Books 1997.
There is a Joseph Brindley but no birth or death, married to Ellen Bowman a quaker, she was buried 1733/4 at Yoxhall Church Stafforshire. James Brindley is their eldest son of Wormhill and Lowe Hill, Leek, buried 1770 and father of The James Brindley. They also had Hannah, Esther ad Prudence and there is a suggestion of another sibling. Dates don't quite fit, but may gives you some clues??
James Brindley 1716-1772 had a younger Brother Joseph of Alton Staffs, Millwright, no dates though. Younger sister Esther baptised 1720. John who went to Burslem and became a master potter, Henry, miller and farmer, not dates ? went to Cheshire. Could your Joseph be a son of Joseph, John (probably not as only surviving son was James) or Henry... will read a littlemore Nel:

Many thanks Nel,though it may seem given my posts and ancestors that I'm native of the area,I'm merely a direct descendant of many families from the area including the Joseph Brindley who I mentioned born in c 1766 in Staffordshire.Joseph was to marry an Elizabeth Sankey at Stoke-on- Trent on 11/08/1788.

Hi
I lived as a child at the Hamlet of Linehouses, near to Goldendale foundry and the Estate was owned by Mr Williamson who also owned pot banks, mines, a marl hole, blacksmiths, pub, shop and farm in the area. The Linehouses homes, as well as property in High Carr and Latebrook were sold in 1950 by auction after the death of Edith Irene Fanny Williamson. The Harecastle Tunnel (James Brindleys famous achievement ran directly under Linehouses and the horses walked through the village to meet the boats on the other side of the tunnel. Mr Williamson must have had a great deal of contact with James Brindley at that time and ened up married to Brindleys widow Ann after Brindley died before the tunnel was completed.
