Robert Williamson came to Staffordshire and built a pottery works at Longport c 1773 aged 23 years!! I deduce that he must have come from a reasonably well off family to be able to do this. There are no Igi's for this chap for Staffordshire. His dates of birth and death are well documented. I gleaned a clue from a book about James Brindley, that he came from North Cheshire, the only Igi is his christening at Ince Cheshire (west Cheshire). Other siblings Alice 1744, Mary 1747 and John 1740, father Robert Williamson. Does anyone have any knowledge of this family, to put me on the right track. Robert married Anne Brindley nee Henshall in 1775, had a large family and lived at Ramsdell hall in Cheshire. He must have been very wealthy being listed as a coal and iron master, along with his brother Hugh Henshall Williamson. My interest is purely local history. Robert' son Robert married Anne Kinnersley daughter of a Newcastle under Lyme banker, coal and iron master, who lived at Clough Hall, any clues appreciated Nel xx

my mistake Robert and Ann lived at Longort Hall, where she died in 1826. It was their son Robert and Ann Kinnersley that lived at Ramsdell Hall.  ;)

Hi Nel

I have looked for a Will for him on the NA site with no luck, there may be one at Stafford/Cheshire Archives this may indicate where he was born.

thanks your help and replies. Think I may have got my robert's mixed up, ??? Robert 1750 married Anne Brindley Newchapel Church, 1775, they had a son Robert born Wolstanton 1881 who married Anne Kinnersley, and they had a son Robert christened in 1815 in Liverpool. I looking for Robert 1st's birth and think it's at Ince, cheshire 1/1/1750.  To add confusion his father is also Robert!! christened at Ince 4/1/1700, his father was John, wondering if I'm on the right track!!
Marg, they lived at Longport Hall, Robert built it after he built his pottery works and it was at Longport, long demolished but his pot works is still standing. The families had land all over staffordshire, found losts of tax return records etc
http://www.thepotteries.org/buildings/longport_hall.htm has info re the hall
thanks for checking for will etc Nel
