Amor Oxley 1510 - 1587
« on: Friday 12 October 12 13:18 BST (UK) »
Is anyone researching Amor Oxley (born about 1510, Wingfield Manor, Derbyshire, and died 1587)? He was a Merchant of the notable Merchant Taylor Company, however I am not sure whether the one in London or York, the latter would perhaps seem more likely.
His grandson was the Rev.Charles OXLEY BA, MA (born abt 1585, Morpeth Northumberland) and became Vicar of Chillingham 1616 a position he held up to his death in 1636
He obtained his degrees at Christ's College Cambridge.

Hi

What are you trying to find?  I have some reference books on Derbyshire history but I am not sure what you are looking for -

extract from 'A Derbyshire Armory'

The Oxleys were descended from Amor Oxley of Wingfield Manor (but from Bushbury Staffs) who died at Morpeth Northumberland 1587.  In 1775 the arms were granted to Christopher Braithwaite who assumed the surname Oxley having inherited the estates of this family.

The arms and motto are given.

Well, I was hoping firstly to determine the name of his wife and when they were married. I was also hoping to learn more about his time as a Merchant with the Merchant Taylor Company.
