That's great - thank you both! Yes, it seems that William Mott married 2 Catherines but I can't find the marriage to the first - I have now obtained the birth cert. for their son Henry born 1856 and the mother's maiden name was Catherine Mulshine. On the 1861 census Catherine's place of birth was given as 'Devon N.K.'
As for William's baptism I have now also found 2 siblings both baptised the same day -
1. John Mott bapt. 15 Oct 1815 Chelsea St. Luke
Father William Mott - Mother Ellen Mott with father's occupation 'Coachman'.
2. Mary Mott bapt. 15 Oct 1815 (born 23 Jan 1812) Chelsea St. Luke
Father William Mott - Mother Ellen Mott with father's occupation 'Coachman'.
Now I'm looking for the marriage of William Mott & Ellen/Helen - any suggestions?
There are these Banns
St James Clerkenwell
entry no 362
Banns for
William Mott Bachelor & Hellen Pitt spinster
both of this parish
16 June, 23 June, 30 June 1805
there is also this baptism
Helen Mott
born 31 July 1804
baptism 6 Oct 1805
Parents William & Helen Mott
so was Helen a daughter born before marriage -but not baptised until after marriage???
Also William Mott (junior) married Catherine Mulshine (according to henry's mother's maiden name on his birth cert
William Mott married Catherine Dudley- both were widowed- and Catherine's father's name was " Patrick Mushner" which must be Catherine's maiden name --although "Mushner " is a guess as it is very difficult to read on marriage cert)- it seems very similar to "Mulshine"
