Gosling Family of Guisborough 19th-20th centuries
« on: Saturday 28 May 05 23:22 BST (UK) »
Hello.

John Boyle GOSLING (b. Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, 1859) and his wife Rebecca (née CLAXTON, born East Winch, Norfolk, 1859) were the parents of my great grandmother, Caroline GOSLING (b.1893, Guisborough).

I wonder if anyone can help with locating their deaths? They do not appear on the FreeBMD webpage. They both appear on the 1901 census for Guisborough. If anyone has access to electoral lists for Guisborough after 1901 I would also be very interested to hear if they appear.

Obviously I would also be delighted to hear from anyone related to this family.

Thanks in advance

Marklinc

 :D Hello Marc,
Are you still working on this family?

I have a 1906 Stepney marriage cert where the father of the Groom is Frank Boyal Gosling.

By way of searching this out, ended up in 1851 with John Gosling...Tower Hamlets, St Matthew, Bethnal Green.... bp Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, a widower, aged 38 = 1813.

There seems to be something amiss... the childrens ages etc after the 'death' of wife Mary who is on 1841 census Tower Hamlets.

I notice you have a wife Rebecca with John, maybe this is the son.  :-\ The name Boyle/Boyal can't be to common..... can it  :)

Regards, Lesanne.

Stumbled across "rootschat" via a Google search.
John Boyal Gosling was my Great Great Grandfather, Born in Long Sutton Lincs 7th Feb 1859
His birth certificate says "John BOYAL"
In the 1861 Census he is recorded as "John ROYAL"
On the Marriage Certificate of my Great grandparents (William Henry Gosling / Mary Ann Howells, in Guisborough 1905) he is recorded as "John BOYLE" - Publican!!
Currently searching for more info about John Boyal's father, Edward Gosling.
I also want to know more about when the Goslings moved to Gusiborough from Lincs left agricultural work and became Iron Stone Miners.
Interested to see below that John Boyal may have died in Doncaster.
My Grandmother Olive Gosling (eldest child of William and Mary) was born in Guisborough, along with 3 siblings but the 3 younger siblings were born in Doncaster. One is still alive, living in New Zealand.
I am keen to share info.

Hi
Edward was my 3xgreat grandfather's brother. Their father being Robert Gosling married to Mary Pike. They lived in and around Sutton St Nicholas (Lutton).
What do you know about the family, other brothers & sister?
I presume my family is a link to yours as I have a John Boyal Gosling in my tree.

Hello to all those who replied to my request for information almost exactly 5 years ago! I'm excited to see several researchers who are also interested in the Goslings and, in particular, have a close or more distant connection to John Boyle Gosling who is my great great grandfather.

John Boyle's daughter Caroline married my great grandfather Robert WHITE at Guisborough in 1915. They had time to have two children -only one of whom survived- before Rebecca died at the early age of 25. Robert went on to marry again but had no more children. After working for some years back in Lincolnshire he moved to Doncaster and I wonder if this was due to the connection with the Goslings or purely due to the availability of mining work? I had wondered if John Boyle and Rebecca (nee Claxton) had died in Doncaster; the information on this list seems to confirm that definitely was the case.

I would be very pleased to hear from anyone still researching the family. Do any photos exist anywhere of John Boyle and Rebecca or other members of their family? I have one photo of Caroline which I am happy to share.  Mark

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply.
The connection comes through John & Rebecca's first child who was born in November 1878 at Upsall Pit. John and Rebecca married shortly after his birth.
John was a co-founder of the Quoit Club in Guisborough, was the Landlord of the Globe pub at the end of Northgate for a time and also had a shop on Walton Terrace.
Unfortunately we don't have a photograph of John, although we do have a photograph of the Mine Deputies at the time when he would have been working in the local ironstone mines, so maybe one of them is him........ He and Rebecca are both buried in Woodlands Cemetery, Doncaster.
Best wishes
Val.
