Hi, its interesting to hear about John Boyle Gosling as a J. Gosling is the hardest person to confirm on the teamsheet of Doncaster Rovers first ever game 3 October 1879 where he played as Centre Forward. I haven't seen him listed beyond this, though info is sparse.

I had come to John Boyle Gosling as being him just by elimating other possibilities. I wonder if anyone has any info that may confirm this or of his football career in any way?

Thanks :)

cjwilky.........
Another child named John Boyl Gosling was born in Doncaster District 3Q 1857 - might he be the one who played for Doncaster Rovers?
As far as I can tell, John Boyle Gosling who was born in Long Sutton in 1858, was living in Guisborough between 1878 and 1884 when the family moved back briefly to Lincolnshire. They were back in Guisborough by 1890 and seem to have remained until just after WW1 when John went to work at the coal mines in Doncaster.
Good luck, I hope you find your answer!!
