Nova Scotia: Coady, Cottie, Coté, Cody, Cotie

Hi I am researching the Pictou County Coady line.

I i have a Frederick Michael Coady (b.25 Feb 1894) married Mary Eleanor Delorey.
Fred's Father Joseph Cottie (b. 17 Aug 1862 and located on an 1881 census as Coté) married Margaret Walsh (b. 1872)

Joseph's father Imable Cottie (b. 1818 possibly I. Mable) married Catherine Long from Nfld & Labrador

Children of Joseph Cottie and Margaret Walsh:

At some point Cody and Cotie also came into the mix of surnames.

I have researched the Margaree/Sheet Harbour Coady's and do not believe there is any connection at all. These Coady's arrived from Ireland, and I believe Imable Coté was a Seaman who possibly came from Quebec. I have always told that we had a connection to Buffalo Bill (his grandfather was born in Ontario and great grandfather was born in Massachusetts so I guess it's possible..)

If Joseph's father was from Quebec his name should properly be Amable...it's a recognized French name meaning beloved or similar.

There are several Amable Cotés born around the correct date in Quebec, the best one having been baptized in Louiseville near Maskinongé in 1817. Son of Augustin Coté, a farmer, and Josephte Toutant. Transcribed in Drouin as A mable, because that's how the name is written in the margin of the parish register page. Josephte's uncle in the godfather, and his name is also Amable, as well as one Amable Gauthier whose role in the baptism is unclear (to me at least

recently discovered that the father of Joseph "Coady" (Cottie/Cote) was Amoss Cote and mother Anastacia Long (Believe her mother was Catherine). Amoss would have been born around 1829. believe his father is Amable born about 1808 in Nova Scotia (father from Quebec). Last saw Amable in the 1891 census and it looks like he was in the Monastery (also located him in 1881 and 1871) appears to have stayed in the Antigonish/Guysborough area

The death in Goldboro says parents Amos Cottie of Antigonish Co., and Anastacia Long from Guys Co. / burial lochaber

 1861 reveals Amos Cotty may also have a daughter in household of 2 females 2 males...
One male between 40 /50  One female between 20/30  One female between10/15  One male under one year of age ( to see info add a last number per page view and keep llooking at  line 29, altho end appears to be written wrong)

There is a Catherine Long here age 46  no place of birth just a dash...with a John age 52
both of Irish decent  1871 Annapolis / Dalhousie

There are 2 Johns Annapolis / Dalhousie and to follow  ages so far apart on the 1861 would be tough and prove nothing at this stage...also we can't take the name John to the bank until we have more proof...

A couple of deaths in Mass. USA   b.Guysborough NS for children to a Joseph Long & Catherine (one has a surname of Nolan but be careful believing death certs as not always correct)

There are baptisms for 2 Manchester Guysbro "Cody" boys, nothing for Cote, etc.

Found a tree that says : Catherine Nowlan was born in Newfoundland, Canada....married Joseph Long on 06 Feb 1832 in Tompkinsville, Guysborough Co. Nova Scotia. So it seems they found a marriage with this information?  There are the children listed but not Anastasia/Anna.

I found the Cote line back to 1600's, still looking into the Long's.
