Cemetery Lookup Photo

Hi:

I am looking for a cemetery lookup/photos.  I am unsure which cemetery they may be in Brighton.
Frances Hannah Small 1855-1930
Fredrick Samuel Pusey 1854-?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think we may need more information than that.  Brighton has several cemeteries.     Have you googled them to see if they do a look up service?
Did this couple marry?    In that case we need to be looking for a death of Frances Pusey not Small.  Did they leave wills?

If you look at www.freebmd.org.uk you will see deaths for both of them.  Frances in 1930 and Frederick in 1937.   Both in Brighton district but that does cover quite a large area.

Thanks for the death dates, I haven't been able to find a online look up as of yet.  I have tried to find out what cemetery they are in with no luck.  I live in Canada.  I do know they are not Catholic.

The website I gave you is free and has good coverage of BMDs.   Probate details for Frederick in 1937 show he lived at 7 Southdown Road Brighton and died at 250 Elm Grove Brighton - maybe a nursing home?  He did not leave much money.

Using the address given you may be able to discover which church he might have attended.   If he was cremated there are large crematoria in Brighton too.
Southdown Road still exists.   Not sure about Elm Grove.

I'm pretty sure 250 Elm Grove was the workhouse now Brighton General Hospital, last house on the RHS is 244 then the hospital.

This is odd because they were actually a very well to do family and in the probate record William Kinch is his son in law.  He was married to his daughter Gertrude.  I haven't researched this family for several years, so the probate record is new to me.  See in Ontario, Ancestry lists the actual death registration with 90% of the time listing the cemetery.  I have asked several family members but all they tell me is they are buried in Brighton.

Built by George Maynard in 1865-7, the buildings now occupied by the Brighton General Hospital were administered by the Board of Guardians for the Parish of Brighton as a workhouse and infirmary until 1 April 1930 when their responsibilities passed to the public assistance committee of the county borough council. (They had been used as a hospital during the First World War, however.) The former Poor Law Institution became known as the Elm Grove Home, and on 1 November 1935 the Brighton Municipal Hospital was established in most of the buildings. So it was a workhouse until 1930 and made into a hospital in 1935.

There are 3 cemeteries near the hospital

City Cemetery
Brighton Borough Cemetery
Brighton and Preston Cemetery

The Council of Brighton will do look ups but they are 7 pounds per person which works out to be almost 14.00 dollars canadian which is a little steep when it comes to paid lookups.  I am guessing that Brighton doesn't have "look up" books like other countries. For instance Aberdeen Scotland has Memorial Inscription books that can be lookup for each cemetery and is not an online database where you can enter the name and it will show what cemetery etc.  Canada has something similar and there is an ongoing project to photograph every gravestone.

I guess then my next step would be is to try and find an obit.
