Hi Captain P,

I've forgotten how to make contact privately, so could you contact me?  I can then give you my email address.

Cheers,

Tisy.

Hallo Tisy

I'm interested in Stanley Boxall as I think he is my maternal grandfather. His father was Albert Alphonse Boxall.
He was married to Annie Edith Aldridge in the UK then went to South Africa - I believe it was to Jo'burg but I'm not sure.

Hi Bunnykin,

The only possible connection I have is Arthur Stanley Boxall b. 1901, son of August Henry Boxall and Bertha Emlie Louise Pautz; do you have dates for the migration?

This is what I have on Arthur Stanley's ancestor's migration to S.A. -

Edward BOXALL (29), tailor from Middlesex, travelling to Stephen WHITEHEAD, Grahamstown, sailed on the Indian Queen,, dep Liverpool 20 May 1858, arr Port Elizabeth 23 July 1858

Our Boxalls seemed to start off in the Eastern Cape - I know some branches of the family did move north, so could be connected.

Have you contacted the one-name study at all?

Cheers,

Tisy

Hello!
I am descended from James Burgess Boxall (1815-1882) who I think  - I have been unable to find a record of their marriage and they stated they were unmarried on the 1881census although head and wife -married Margaret Sophia Aston. They had Emily Eliza born 1844, married Joseph Smith ( and /or Mr Dickinson?);Sarah in 1847 who married a Mr Harris, had 4children , and 'ran off to America';Margaret born 1850, married John Samuel Webb; Mary born 1856 married Benjamin Hughes and had two children Gladys and Hugh; and Alfred born who married Annie ? and had 3children Arthur, Harold and Hilda.
James was born in Cranleigh  and lived in Kingston on Thames. I would love to know how he acquired the Burgess bit of his name...I have a miniature of Emily if any of her descendants are interested. I have more info on Gladys and Hugh and their offspring - my line...
Any info about James Burgess Boxall a builder in Kingston gratefully received..
Panjela

If Panjela is still around, I'd be interested in making contact (or if anyone else has a way of making contact I'd be grateful). I am a descendant of Emily Eliza Burgess who married John Hudson Webb - it seems two of the sisters married into the Webb family. Their daughter, Emily Eliza Webb, married into the Winter family and their son, my great-grandfather, immigrated to South Africa where the family remain.

Cheers,
Cazo

Message for Bunnykin

I have a Stanley Herbert Boxall (c1882) married to Annie Edith Aldridge (c1881) - married 11/04/1903 in Ealing, London.

Stanley's father was Albert Alphonse Boxall.  Annie's father was Edgar William Aldridge.

Stanley and Annie had 3 children, Hilda Boxall (c1906), Winifred Grace Boxall (29/11/1907 Croydon) and Edgar Stanley Boxall (c1910 in Croydon).  Stanley left England in 1917/1918 to go to South Africa (he left Annie and the children in England) and they never heard from him again.

Winifred Grace Boxall married Frank Rowlands and they had 4 children, Marian (c1928), Rowland (c1930), Owen (c1932) and Janet (1938) all born in UK.

Strangely Janet married Rodney Clark (born in Durban, South Africa) but they married in UK.

Rodney Clark is my connection to the Boxall family.

Not sure if this could perhaps be your Stanley Herbert who left UK for South Africa in about 1917 leaving Annie Edith (nee Aldridge) and the children in UK.  Found this on the South African Archive website.  If this is him, then seems he remarried in South Africa.

Hi Bunnykin,

Just as a matter of interest, my late mother-in-law, Ivy Antonia Boxall had a brother, Arthur Stanley Boxall b. 1901.  Their father was August Henry Boxall b. 1875 who was the son of  Edward James Boxall b. 1825 in Brighton, Sussex.  I wonder whether your Albert Alphonse was related in view of the name Stanley?

Cheers,

Carol

Hi Cazo, For some reason I have only just seen your message. I'm not certain we are talking about the same family...where have you got your information from? Can you go back any further than Margaret Maria and her sisters? Their mother Margaret Maria, nee Aston came from the Midlands. Do get in touch agin and I can send you more info if we are on the right track..
