Leeds Town Hall
« on: Wednesday 03 October 12 14:14 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am lead to believe that my gg grandfather died while cleaning the town hall clock in Leeds in the early 1900's, his name was Alexander Kendall and according to the census his occupation was shown as window cleaner.  I have found a death for an Alexander Kendall in 1908 but can not find anything else.  Would anyone know about this through searches or any idea where I could go and find out.  I have only been doing ancestry for the past  four weeks so very new to this.

Hope someone can help me please Jayne

The best way would be to search a local newspaper of the time, such as the Yorkshire Post.

You could try the Leeds Mercury, a forerunner to the Yorkshire Post ?
Ramsden (Stanley nr Wakefield) and Roo (Horsforth) in West Yorkshire, UK

His death certificate would show cause of death. However you'd need to order this and unless you are fairly sure that you have the right Alexander Kendall, your money would be wasted, I suppose.

Hello Jayne

Welcome to Rootschat. Im am sure that lots of people here will do their best to help you.

I have just had a look on British Newspapers archive for you but can't find any matched for Alexander

http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/

Had he fallen it would probably have made the local press, if only for an inquest.

How much information about your family have you managed to get together so far? Have you got any certificates for any family members yet? Do you know his DOB? Have you checked the 1911 census too?

If you let us have a bit more information we can also try looking .

I have found a burial for an Alexander Kendall age 25 on 1 December 1908 at Holbeck Cemetery if that's any help.  However, I have traced this gentleman back and he seems to be a bricklayer/brick maker, not a window cleaner.  It might help a little if we know date of birth and where this gentleman/family were in the 1901 census.
