From NSW Electoral Roll 1913, WAGGA WAGGA electorate, polling at Wagga Wagga.

Thomas Joseph KYNASTON, Hillside, a carter.

I also noticed there were people with that surname at COBAR NSW on the 1913 ER.

Could you please check the spelling for your PIERCE family, perhaps the surname was recorded as PEARCE in NSW ….

Venus Wilhelmina PEARCE, of Hemming St, dd
William Henry PEARCE, of Hemming St, railway inspector.

Railway Inspector …. Possibly his nephew had a stint at SHUNTING.   Hemming St is about halfway between Penrith Railway Station and Kingswood Railway Station, according to Mr Googlemaps.

Many thanks for your responses.

At this stage, I'm pretty sure the 'Cousin Tom' I'm after is A PIERCE or PEARCE, not Kynaston.
In some of the Shropshire Census', both spellings were used.

Kynastons connected with the family - Married my Grandfather's sister (EMILY REBECCA EDWARDS B Kinnerley, Nr Oswestry) did emigrate to Australia, but this didn't happen until later in the 1900's, I'll sort out dates and post them asap - that's another strand of enquiry!.

majm, It's likely that the head of household would have been WILLIAM PIERCE (PEARCE?), with a THOMAS as a son.
Until I see my family contact next week, I'm not sure, again, I'll post more when I know.

Judith, I'm afraid I can't say when she died, only that it would have been sometime between, say 1915 and 1920 when Grandad returned to UK - he didn't date his notes, until later when he was about to return.
I have had a quick look on the NSW records, and can't find an Alice that looks right - again, lets wait until next week, I should have more definite info then.

Hello all, to bring you up to date
I'm pretty sure now that Tom was Thomas Pierce, son of William and Alice Pierce (sometimes spelled PIEARCE, confusingly)
Alice died in 1915 while my Grandfather was in Australia, which ties in with his diary.
William Piearce died in 1944.
I'm now contacting a descendant of William and Alice (in Aus) who have done extensive research and may be able to fill in more gaps.

TROVE has  death and funeral notices for William PIEARCE of Toongabbie, d 1944, 82, father to Alice, Tom and Rose. He is buried in the Church of England Cemetery at Rookwood.

The spelling of William and Venus’s surname is PEARCE...
they are my great grandparents (he was grandfather to my Dad, John Henry Oswald Pearce, an amazing man who unfortunately died in 2018 (late of Dee Why NSW. Dad was a lifesaver with North Bondi Surf Club in the early 1950s).
William Henry was Deputy Commissioner of the NSW Railways.
Dad’s dad, William Tobin, was oldest brother to Oswald.
Venus is a descendant of Matthew Everingham, a convict on the First Fleet.
Oswald Pearce, William and Venus’ youngest son, was Dad’s uncle:
