COSGROVE lookup STAMP death/burial 1875-1881 - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 01 October 12 17:32 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help? I am trying to find out about the death of my 2x Great Grandfather Thomas Stamp who was a machinist living in Cosgrove in the 1870s. I kow that he was working for London & North Western Railways in 1867 as a machinist. He died between 1875-1881 - family story is that it was in a railway related accident, but I haven't been able to find a death certificate, or any record at all of his death or burial.
Could someone please check the burial record for Cosgrove?

As he may well have worked at the Wolverton Works, I suppose it is just possible there may be a burial record for Wolverton as opposed to Cosgrove. I have posted a lookup request on the Buckinghamshire board as well.

Any help or signposting would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Paul Stamp

When was he born?
There are a few death registrations for those years - have you ruled them all out?
If he worked on the railways he might have been anywhere when the accident happened, not necessarily in his home village
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi

Thanks - I have, mostly by age or by linking them to another Thomas Stamp alive in that area.

He was born in 1837 in Farthingstone.

Paul

Judging by the age, this is a better bet?

Hi

According to Freebmd there are only 4 possible deaths between 1875 and 1881. If you are certain he was born in 1837, the age of the one who died in Sunderland fits.

1875  Gainsboro aged 59
1877  Hartlepool aged 38
1877  Lutterworth aged 54
1879 Sunderland aged 42

Thanks all

Unfortunately there's a Thomas Stamp born in 1871 in Co Durham that fits the Sunderland death better!

Thanks anyway

How come? If he was born in 1871 he wouldn't have been 42 when he died in 1879.
