Hi.  My name is Gary in Australia & I am tracing my wife's forebears including Mary Ann Garness chr. 29/7/1825 Mamble, mother Ann Garness. I have not been able to identify Anne's parents & any help would be fantastic. I know Ann never married as she appears as a witness to her daughter's wedding to Alonzo Goodhead in 1865 in Birmingham as an unmarried person. She may be on the 1851 Census but I have no idea where she was living. I cannot find a death for Mary Ann Goodhead nee Garness but it could be between 1865 & 1871.

This Mary married to Alonzo was born about 1843, unless the age is wrong on the census.

I can't see a second marriage for Alonza, so I am thinking that Mary aged 28 in 1871 is an enumerator error?
And she was really the same Mary as in 1851, and therefore aged about 45? Or should it be 48?

How do you know that the Ann Garness appearing as a witness, was in fact Mary Ann's mother?

She could have been an aunt or sister-in-law?

I can't find Ann Garness on any census - assuming she would have been born c1800 +/- 5 years?

But Mary Goodhead, on the 1871 census, is married?
So her maiden name is unlikely to be Goodhead?!
