would there be a record of who would of been the vicars in lincolnshire in the 1920s, and how would you go about looking for them.

I think I am right in saying, there is a book called Crockfords it lists vicars and their various appointments. I know our local Library used to have one. I am not too sure of the dates as a while ago.  This might be something to go on!

There is a new Clergy of the church of England database at http://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/persons/index.jsp

This seems to be an updated version of the one mentioned by Rosie (which I used to use)

You can search by name or parish (assuming you know the Diocese), I am not sure of it goes up to 1920 though

Crockfords is an annual publication. (Near-) complete runs are available at the Society of Genealogists library and in the National Archives library; my guess is that a few big libraries will also keep complete runs, rather than just retaining the most recent one. Each entry gives the clergyman's name, education, and appointments.

You could try Crockford's Clerical Directory http://www.crockford.org.uk/
