LEANE family Birkenhead?

Hello !

On the 1871 census (Family Search)  I have found Margaret LEANE, who was born in Birkenhead, Cheshire. Margaret's age is given as 22 and she is identified as the niece of Margaret JONES of Oswestry, Shropshire.

I would appreciate help to find any information on Margaret and her family. I thought the censuses for 1841 and 1851 might provide some clues, but am unable to access them.

there are no results ..none for Lean either .so I would think that 1871 census return is a mistranscription ...could her name be
McLean ?

There is always a possibility of a mistranscription or misunderstanding of surname by the census taker, I suppose.

Could you give McLean a try please Alan?

I am hoping to find a surname for her mother in the process and a link back to Oswestry. Is this Margaret a niece or gr niece?

Appreciate your help and thoughtful idea.

Hi Elsie,
After looking at the 1871 for Margaret Leane-if you zoom in it looks at first like Leane, but I think its actually Lane-the enumerator has extended the L.

Isabella wife 50yrs born Oswestry
Margaret E 12yrs born Birkenhead.

I'll see if I can follow this through and maybe find a surname for Isabella. With a little luck their marriage might be on Family Search.

The 1841 census is another possible option.

On Ancestry there is a Civil Registration 4th quarter 1845.
Andrew Lane possible marriage Isabella Jones. Oswestry Shropshire.

This seems to be the one Wendouree.

A JONES connection.

On Family Search, after some trial and error, mostly error (!!!!), I have found the birth of a Mary Ellen LANE, born to Isabella and Andrew LANE, abt 1848. (Christening 9.7.1848 St Mary, Birkenhead.)

Appears Isabella died around 1868.
