VINNING

Does anyone know if the Vinning family of Devon is related to the one in Somerset?
I can find plenty of info re the US end nothing about the native family history.

The free 1911 index shows only 2 entries for that surname in Devon - Caroline b 1847 and Mozart b 1845

Only one entry in Somerset - Emma b 1877

You haven't given any christian names or birthyears etc of your particular Vinning families so impossible to link

Hi,

To tell the truth I have come to a full stop on my Devon Finning family tree,
then I saw the Vinning entries for Devon as I just wondered at the
possibility of a name change. I am currently checking the IGI hoping
for a break.

Any suggestions?

If it helps, 1851 census has 36 Vinning in Devon, and 7 in Somerset.

None of the Somerset ones were born in Devon.
Just 1 of the Devon ones was born in Somerset, and she married into the family.

Can you post some details of your "Finnings" as it's difficult not having names/birthyears etc to work from

John Finning C 1760 wife Mary Coles Married Shobrooke 1791 - my direct line census say born in Shobrooke
Henry Finning 1760 Sourton, Inwardleigh ,wife Honor b 1798 Bratton Clovelly.
Jane Finning born Shobrook 1786c
William Finning 1775c Devon wife Martha Bailey- married Germansweek 1809


cannot find any of them except census and marriage records.

The 1901 census for Eliza and Mozart shows them living at the Royal Naval Hospital East Stonehouse and surname is shown as Vining

Caroline Eliza Vining 54 b Bursledon, Hampshire,
Mozart 56 b Gloucs Bristol paymaster & clerk of the hospital

Marriages December qtr 1874   
Caroline Eliza Blundell    Southampton  2c 26   
Mozart Vinning    Southampton  2c 26

They don't appear to have had any children by 1891 - here's the 1881 and I checked the 1891

I doubt there is a connection to your Finnings

The birthyear of 1877 for Emma Vinning is incorrect - it should be 1827.  The 1901 shows her as Vining -  single and b Bristol.  She died in 1911 as Vining
