Roslin/Rosslyn Castle
« on: Wednesday 26 September 12 21:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Looking for some help in tracing staff who worked at Roslin Castle. My great grandmother x2, Sarah Allan/Swan, born, c1842 or my great grandmother Grace Donaldson/Allan, born, 1867. One or both worked as sewing maids or domestic servants in the Castle. I would be very grateful for any help. Both had a spell in living in Roslin.

Sanders, Wolverson, Clift, Dangerfield,Bradley, Hadley- Staffordshire
Erskine, Brown, Donaldson, Arundel, Galloway- Mid / East Lothian
Allan- Belfast, County Down
Moran, Duffy, Macfarlane, Hill, Christie- Ireland

Hi bobbybob,

the Castle was destroyed in 1544 then partially rebuilt this is all that is left of it, I have added photos for you where they would have worked one has an arrow pointing to it, try and contact Rosslyn Chapel Trust and see if they can help you.

Cheers.

Archie.

It's let by the Landmark Trust, I was supposed to be a guest there two Winters ago but the birthday bash was cancelled due to frozen pipes.

Hi Skoosh,

thanks for the useful information I thought somebody stayed there but goes to show, I doubt if there would be any records of employment for Ian.

Cheers.

Archie.

Archie,  quite reasonable to hire off-season, except for Xmas & New Year. Stayed in Castle of Park at Glen Luce, Landmark Trust again. Seven foot thick walls, central heating, just superb.

Bests,

Skoosh.
