Help required WW1 query

Hi All

My G Grandad noted on his service records of WW1(Labour Corps) that he had not served in any branch of his Majesty's Forces however he did enlist in the Navy in 1896 and was invalided out after only two years - so my question is this - would that fact that he had been invalided out of the Navy have prevented him from enlisting into the Army which is why he chose not to mention his earlier naval career or maybe another reason altogether?

I am not sure so was wondering whether somebody would know - thanks in advance

Hello Z,
Have come across this myself. I think in some cases that some men were a little economical with certain aspects of past military service, especially if it didn't work out in their favour. The only thing that might have stopped him from any further service would have been any injury or disability that would have seen him being assessed as 'unfit for military service' following his medical assessment.

I am researching the 452 names on Goole Cenotaph from the 'Great War'. Have located a number of official records, material and details from the Goole Times printed throughout the War years. In addition I have also obtained copies of photos & letters from relatives of those named on the Cenotaph. In addition I am also researching 280+ men who all had a connection with Goole and who also died, but who are not named on the Cenotaph.

Thank-you for your reply - it's amazing to think that these brave men would rather lie than be told that they are 'unfit for military service' - I have been told that he was a very proud and modest man - I have been lucky enough to uncover quite alot about his Military Service and to that list above of personal qualities I can also add courageous - as they all were - Thanks Again - have a great day!!
