Irish Family Tree HELP!!
« on: Wednesday 26 September 12 07:58 BST (UK) »
Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me, I am starting to do my grannys family tree she was orginally from Dublin, but now lives in Scotland.  I have her Date of Birth Feb 1927 and her name! * Caffrey or as written on her birth cert * Caffrey.  I know her fathers name was James Caffrey and her mothers name was Annie White.  I am having trouble tracing them I have found my granny on the FamilySearch website but only information that was on it was the year of her birth.  Can anyone help??! not sure where to start, I have just finished my grandads family tree but he was from Scotland so was a lot easier as I used the scotlandspeople website which was great! is there anything like that for Irish family tree? If anyone has any tips or can help me get started that would be great.  Thank you :)

Moderator Note : Details of living person removed in accordance with Rootschat policy. Please see Posting Guidelines in Help pages (button at top of page).

The FamilySearch website has an index for BMDs, but you need to order certs from the GRO to see the full details.

see :  Introduction to Irish Records

I'll have a look for the marriage of James and Annie..

Do you know where your granny was in the family - i.e. eldest, middle, or youngest ?

there's a possible marriage for Annie and James in 1921 - the references match, so they appear on the same page of the register :

  Name:   Annie White
  Registration district:   Dublin North
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Jan-Mar 1921
  Volume:   2 / Page: 493

A James Caffery is listed with the same details.

for notes on marriage certs and how to order them see  :

do you have a Dublin address on that Birth cert ?

it might help find other details such as the parents on the 1939 electoral register, or possibly James in a directory..

There's a couple of sets of Corporation buildings listed in the city 1927, but going by the church it looks like they would have lived in the north east city centre - so probably somewhere to the east of O'Connell street like Summerhill or Gardiner St.

That area was originally part of St. Mary's , Marlborough St. Parish

on the Electoral Lists that Shane refers to there are two couples that could match in 1939, if James and Annie were still living

There were 16 James and less Ann* and just two with matching addresses
17 Brian Avenue and 14 Abbey Cottages

If the reference for the marriage is correct their marriage certificate should state their fathers' names and pin point them on the 1911 census for you and help to trace back further

For James Caffrey I searched on the census for CAFF*, James, age 13+/-5, and there are only 6 results which looks good for researching further
