« on: Tuesday 25 September 12 08:26 BST (UK) »
Has any one with the surname of Dingley, ever come across the family name of Vere ?

In my family history, I have a Ester Dingley married to Thomas Webb. Ester died about 1758 Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Any information most welcome re the Dingley / Vere names.

VERE   m   English. From a Norman surname which was from a French place name, which was itself derived from a Gaulish word meaning "alder". http://www.behindthename.com/names/letter/v

Around 1980 I worked with a man called Vere.  He usually used his middle name instead because he was tired of having to spell it, and explaining that he didn't know its origin!  It had been passed down through his father's family but apparently no-one knew why.
