It appears Edith did not die in 1922.

She remarried too - Edith E Cross married Wilfred J. Mawer in Dec.qtr.1927 Sculcoates

She lived to a grand old age - Edith Etty Mawer born 11th June 1894 died January 1995 Hull (a tree on Ancestry states she died in Cottingham Rest Home, Kingston upon Hull).

Son Frank Lewis Cross born 11/6/1919 died 1/2/2009 Hull.  From a tree online he married an Ann Elizabeth Fieldhouse in 1940 Hull (she is shown as born 9/1/1918, d.2011 Auckland, New Zealand.  Perhaps the other marriage in Hull (1967) is him too and he and first wife divorced??

The original post was from before I joined RC. Arrived today to find the name of my Gran staring me in the face.

Edith Etty Mawer was my Gran - step grandmother actually. Wilf was a widower with one son when he married her, and her son Frank and my Dad grew up as brothers. Annual holidays in Rolston were where we, as kids, met up with Uncle Frank and his wife and two sons.

I'm sure Ron has most of the family info by now from Michael (I sent him a load of pictures a few years ago), however if he or anyone else wants further info, please just ask.

I've not heard the song, but know of the camp. My Grandparents wooden bungalow was across the next field to the north. It's still there, though the shed in the garden where they used to sleep has gone, and now (google maps) is enveloped in trees. The camp's gone as well, and a lot of land between the bungalow and the sea. The camp had built proper wooden steps all the way down the cliffs to the beach - very useful for us holiday makers.
We could stand on the back doorstep and watch the children at the camp.
Only visited for 2 weeks each August. My grandarents had moved out to there from Hull during the war.

Aw...great memories eh Bryan....seeing who can spot the Withernsea lighthouse first when you are on a coach trip...Spreadeagle for the adults and the amusements for the kids and a visit to Rock Bob for a mint humbug to take home for Grannie
