Looking for info on great-uncle

I am looking for info on my great-uncle who emigrated from England to Canada sometime after WW2. I do not have much info other than he was married with no children, died some time around 2000 (+/- 5 years) and lived in the Toronto area. Where to start looking as I believe Canadian records are closed for quite a long time after death.

Hi Suz, the man I'm looking for is Stephen Charles Webster, b. 16/1/1925 in Hartwell, Northamptonshire.

Fingers crossed. The reason I am keen to find out about him is, according to family legend, he had a very interesting WW2 (some type of commando, possibly in the early days of the SAS).

I came across this in the Legion Magazine, Last Post Death Notice

Corporal Stephen C. Webster
Deceased in April 1993, age 67
Service Numbers: CJX544921 and 22548549
Units: Royal Navy, Army
Period of Service: WW2
Legion Branch: Highland Creek Branch, Scarborough, Ontario

Age is correct and Scarborough is in the greater Toronto area.

Using pages of the past, you may be able to find an obituary for him and either confirm or rule out if this is your man.

He seems to have died slightly earlier than I thought, but serving in both the navy and the army fits with what I know about him. I'd be astonished if that isn't him.

Found an obituary at pagesofthepast.ca and from that possibly a reference for a UK marriage. Thanks again for the great leads!
