Henry Bateman of Castle Bromwich' son
« on: Monday 24 September 12 11:50 BST (UK) »
In March 1843 William Mould made a will and in a codicil he left money to a William "Arch"? who he says was the son of Henry Bateman deceased.
He left it in the the charge of Sarah Goldingay nee Bateman. The boys  surname is unclear but is short and finishes "ch".
Sarah  had a brother or half brother called Henry but I can't find a death of any Henry Bateman that fits the timescale.Brother Henry would have been only about 17 in 1843 if he's the father then William "Arch" ? would have been very young. and probably illegitimate .
William must have been under 21ys or the money would have been left to him directly.
In was in a codicil  signed March 1843 so the death may have been very recent
Does anyone have  a William Arch ?? Or Any ideas

Can you post an excerpt of the Will, maybe we can make out what the "Arch" is?

I found this family in 1851:
HO107 2051 224 35
Mill Str Ladywood, B'ham

John Goldingay 45 rule maker bn E. Bromwich
Sarah 26 bn Aldridge Staffs
Charlotte 8 bn B'Ham
Eliza 6 bn Lte Bromage
John 4 mths bn B'ham
Caroline 4 bn B'ham

but this seems to lead back to this marriage:
Jul/Aug/Sep 1841 West Bromwich
John Goldingay/  Sarah Groom or Sarah Massey

so no Bateman!
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

1841 Census
Castle Bromwich,
Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire
HO107/1150/8/Aston
William MOULD, 75, Independant
Sarah GOULDINGAY, 25, Female Servant
Thomas Gouldingay, 4
William Gouldingay, 1****

Nearby is a Thomas Mould 50 and Wife Maria and Children.

Looks like the 1851 is a different Sarah Goldingay to me ???

THOMAS Goldingay Christened 04 Jan 1837, Castle Bromwich, Warwick, to WILLIAM/SARAH

I cant find a WILLIAM c 1840 to William/Sarah. Could this be the mysterious William ARCH*** ?

Trish :)

Hi
Thanks for the prompt replies. Sorry I can't scan the copy of the will at the moment.
The William Mould in the 1841 census is the William who made the will.
The youngster William is his illegitimate son by Sarah Goldingay. The older boy Thomas is her husband's child. They had a daughter Betsey in 1843. He acknowledged both children as his in his will. William Mould Snr die in 1843.
Sarah's husband William Goldingay was transported to Tasmania in 1838.  He was william Mould Snr's nephew via his sister Hannah.

Sarah seems to have remarried by 1851 Census to Joseph Edwards.
Census is hard to read but William M Goldingay is down c 1847 age 4, image is 11 c 1840.
Kids are under Golway from Sarahs 1st Marriage.
Sarah Edwards is born c 1816, Birmingham, Warwickshire
HO107/2062/318/7

Marriage same Church as previous Marriage Joseph EDWARD/Sarah GOLDINGAY 25 March 1844.

Sorry cant see a William Arch* with her.

EDIT, your reply came through as I was about to post this, very interesting :)

I think that William Arch??  is living with his mother somewhere not too far from Castle Bromwich, but where did the deceased Henry Bateman die and when.?

I know this is an old thread but I have just come across a situation which may relate to it.

I was trying to follow an Edward  WATTS and his wife Harriet nee Webster
(born Repton Derbyshire 1822)
I found they has a son Reuben born 1850 in Castle Bromwich in 1851 Piece: 2062
Folio: 316 Page Number:2
I can't find them in 1861 then in 1871 Piece:3124 Fo 107 p14 There is a John Goldingay with wife Harriet and a son Reuben which could well be them
and 1881Piece: 2995 Fo 118 P32 shows John and Harriet with a step son Reuben Watts  which confirms my suspition that Harriet has indeed married John Goldingay The question being where and when did Harriet marry John Goldingay?
Are these related to the Goldingay's of this thread if so has anyone found a marriage for John and Harriet please?
