I cannot find a burial site?
« on: Sunday 23 September 12 20:00 BST (UK) »
I am really struggling to find the burial place of my Great Grandma.
Her daughter (my gran) died last week and she never knew where her mum was buried.
I have tried but cannot seem to get anywhere and now I feel like i owe it to my gran to find her.
If anyone can help?
The information i have is

Martha Ann Tuke.
She was married to Thomas Edwin Tuke and i think she died in 1921.
She was from the Leeds area.
I think her maiden name was Winstanley.

Any ideas please? Thanks

This looks like her death:

Oct/NOv/Dec 1921
Leeds Reg District ref 9b 489
MArtha A Tuke age 38

Getting the death cert will give you a more exact idea of where in Leeds she died.
Then it is a case of researching churchyards, or more likely by that time, munucipal cemeteries for that area.

So there is no specific website that would tell you where she might be buried?
I know there is a death certificate which says she was murdered but that is all i know.

Sorry, no.

But if she was murdered it would be worth looking for Newspaper reports etc to get more info.

And when you do look for the burial, remember it may be longer after the death than yuo would normally expect, if there were police enquiries etc.

If you have A******y membership(even "pay as you go") they have a database set "West Yorkshire Burials 1813-1985" that might yield something, including parish.

I've requested this be moved to the West Riding board, someone near to Leeds might be able to check the newspapers, as already suggested.

Kind regards,

Pels.

There's an entry in the NBI that may fit:-

8 October 1924
Martha TUKE
Aged 39
Buried, Harehills Cemetery, Leeds.

Hope this helps,

David
