Hi, Andrew Delany/Delaney (he spelled it both ways on the census forms) was my great grandfather.  He was from Kings County.  He was married to Norah who was from Queens County.  I believe the marriage took place around 1898 or thereabouts.  They lived in Montpelier Hill in Dublin from the time of the 1901 census until their deaths.
Could anyone help me find out where in Offaly Andrew was from and what was Norah's maiden name and where was she from in Laois.  We do have Egan relatives in or near Edenderry if thats of any help.  Thanks in advance.

I'd start with their marriage to establish details of their fathers, or even a birth cert or baptism for one of the children to establish Norah's maiden name..

ages a little inconsistent for the adults, but ok for eldest child Margaret M.

there's a good match for the birth of one of the sons - correct middle name, timeframe and district :

not seeing anything promising for the marriage at the moment, but Norah's maiden name from the birth cert should help narrow that down..

depending on which census you believe, it looks like Andrew snr. could have been born before the start of civil records - so you may need to check for parish records for him.

Thanks Shane.  I knew I could depend on you !  I'll be heading into town on Tuesday morning for that Cert and hopefully it may provide a few answers.

I have looked at the 1911 census and one of the daughters is a visitor on census night at the home of John Egan in Pembroke Lane.  I have tried looking for John Egans in the 1901 census in Laois to see if I can match them up, but so far no joy.  I think these people (Egans) may possibly have been my ggmother's relations.  Thanks again.

This looks to me to be the two John Egan's on the 1901 Irish Census

Tara - thats brilliant.  I think this lady Margaret Delaney was my ggfather's sister and that would make John Egan Jun, my grandmothers cousin.  Also, one of my grannys sisters was called Margaret.  Thanks so much for all your help - Barbara

The free index on ifhf shows that Margaret Delaney was baptised in 1899 at St. Paul's Arran Quay Dublin, to Andrew and Honor Delaney - I can't work out tho what her maiden name is.

ifhf is a pay per view site and for about 5 euro you will get to see a transcription of the church record
