Hi Enid

Could you please confirm spelling of surname as there is a divorce record at Vic State Archives in 1911 for HORGAN Elizabeth Lilian and HORGAN William Owen

Page 84 (just below entry 232 - 2nd last entry for year 1911, Red entry BALLARAT)

Cheers :)

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/11625467?searchTerm=%22Horgan%22
 - here is the original divorce; alimony was awarded.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/67392790?searchTerm=%22Horgan%22
 - and another reference to the alimony suit which gives the surname as Horgan.

Probably just a mistake by the Gippsland Times.

Hi Enid :)

Still chasing your HOGAN's  ;D

You have been given this information previously including where to look for a divorce file for Elizabeth HOGAN which appears to be in the name of HORGAN.

I linked the news item transcribed below, in one of your previous threads and the link was also given to the Divorce Index - VPRS 5335 P0 Index to Divorce Cause Books (VA 2549) Supreme Court of Victoria, 1861 – 1924.  I am wondering why you didn't get back to us to say you couldn't find the entry in the Index to Divorce Cause Books.  Perhaps you didn't download the rather large file.

This link explains in more detail how Ballarat records can be ordered for viewing in the Victorian Archives Centre Reading Room.  You would need someone to visit as PROV do not offer a copying service.
http://210.8.122.120/publications/documents/05335-P0.asp

They do have a list of research agents

The information on the divorce index is as follows -

1911
No of suit - Ballarat
Petitioner -  Elizabeth Lilian HORGAN
Respondent -  William Owen HORGAN

Quote
Gippsland Times  Thursday 9 Jan 1913
A BAIRNSDALE CASE
Elizabeth Hogan, of Bainsdale, obtained an order for a writ of attachment to issue after the end of the vacation against her divorced husband, William Hogan, who owes alimony since March last, £37.18.0 balance, taxed costs.

Enid if you are having trouble finding the information on the links please tell us.  Many of us would be more than happy to transcribe the information. ;D

Cheers for now :)

Strange that this edition of the Gippsland Times dated that same day has HOGAN.
