The BDM`s on line show the year of the event ie death
Hi...
Just to be precise, the BDM`s on line show the year of
registration of the event, not the year of the event.
An event may have been registered many years after the event, even though it's not meant to have been.
The simplest way to get the date of the event is to narrow the dates down using the "Search To" and "Search From" boxes on the BDM NZ website (not that that always works :-)

...beside that is a number that I understand is the cemetery or area where the cemetery is.
On a BDM NZ
Microfiche the format is year/folio e.g 1890/1234.
In this instance the 1234 refers to the registration district. Maybe this is what you meant.
