Back into the forest of family tree
« on: Saturday 15 September 12 11:44 BST (UK) »
Afternoon RC

I used to be around here years ago, looking further and further back into my Welsh side of the family tree. Lots of help here for which I'm grateful.

Now back with the bug so will try to have a peruse. Seems that almost all the useful sites have been gobbled up for subscription purposes but I'm sure there's way rounds that  :) ;) :)

I'll update my sig and start requesting info if I need any as soon as :D
Preston - Pennington/Hawarden/Bland/Schofield
Glamorgan(shire) - Beattie/Bevan/Williams/Ellis-Anwyl
Wigan - Pennington [I know, I know...]/Pugh (Haydock area)

Also of note -
Willoughby Hawarden -  have his War Records but what happened to him?
Nimrod Pugh - just a fantastic name!

Welcome back, doktorb!

FH research/activity seems to be the type of bug that can lie dormant for some time, while RC is still  alive and kicking  ;D  Enjoy.

Hi

A couple of changes you may be unaware of and which may be of help

Freebmd has added lots more transcriptions and coverage is now into the late 1940's
www.freebmd.org.uk

Family Search now has a different website which has a lot more info

https://www.familysearch.org/

(eg) Marriages now often show fathers names and it also shows other census entries - not just the 1881

The 1871 census is transcribed on that site as well as the 1881

The 1911 is now online but Rootschat do not allow lookup requests from it so you will need to read the following links

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,355486.0.html
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,492718.0.html

If you have any Irish ancestry - the Irish 1901 and 1911 is free at
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Some Irish BMD info can be found on the Family Search site
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1&countryId=1927084
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

There are lots of BMD and OPC sites up and running now.

E.G.
www.cornwall-opc-database.org is one I use.
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk also.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks all  :D

I'm still unsure whether I should go back or try to "move forward", filling in off-shoots and that sort of thing. I'm just happy to be back, though :)
