Are you still searching for information about Elizabeth Chapple (nee Woods), 2nd marriage to John Mills?
I was a Mills. My father is a great grandson of John Mills, grandson of James Mills (13 kids), son of Harry (Henry) Mills (2 sons). My Aunt, a Mills by marriage, has researched the Mills family extensively.

If you wish to find out more about John and Elisabeths kids - they had 7 together. She had 6 with Mr. Chapple, only 2 survived George and Sarah. She married John Holmes 2 years after John Mills died then Ed Taylure in 1890, 7 years after John Holmes died. Popular lady.

Regards

Hi, I am new to this site.

If you are still looking into Elizabeth Chapple (nee Woods). John and elizabeth had 7 kids (2 died), she had already had 2 of her 6 born while married to Mr Chapple. She married J. Holmes in 1869, 2 years after John Mills (my great, great grandfather died in 1867, aged 52. After Holmes dies in 1883, she married E. Taylure in 1890. One popular lady. She died 1904 aged 88.  Just been for a trip with my dad to the area and cemetary. I am from the James (b1858) child of the John Mills mob. He married Jessie Shovelton. They had 13 kids, my grandpa was one of the youngest. My dad is one of his 2 sons, now 90. If you wish to hear any more about the James Mills side please contact me. Regards W.

Hi,

Yes I would be interested to find out more about the Mills family-my investigations have stalled after managing to trace the basics of my partners ancestral line.  My partner (John Mills) is a great, geat grandson of the original John Mills who migrated to Australia. His Great Grandfather was Mathew Mills - the youngest son of John Mills and Elizabeth Woods.  His Grandfather was Francis (Frank) Mills-oldest son of Mathew Mills and Marion McKenzie.
I'm particularly interested to know if you have information on John Mills' family history prior to leaving England?

Cheers,

JL

Hi Jenny Lynn,

I'm Wendy. Father is Norman, grandfather Harry (Henry), G-grandfather James Mills married to Jessie nee Shovelton.

James father, John Mills b 1820 married Elizabeth Chapple b 1825 (nee Woods).
Elizabeth married Charles Chapple in Somerset UK, had son George, then came out to OZ. She had Sarah in 1855 (+4 deceased kids prior). Charles drowned in 1855 then she married John Mills also in 1855 and went on to have;
Jane 1856, Matthew 1857 (your partners relative), James 1858 (my GG), John 1859, Eizabeth 1861 (dec), Elizabeth Maria 1864, and Elijah 1865 (dec).

Matthew married Maria Hunter Mckenzie.
John Mills died in Avenel in 1867 at 52 yrs still married to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth then married John Holmes in 1869. He died in 1883, then she married Edward Charles Taylure in 1890.  She died in 1904 aged 88

John Mills (a tailor) born London 1815 came to Oz in 1852-4, then married Elizabeth in 1855 in Avenel.
His father another John Mills (? b 1786) also a tailor, and mother nee Sarah Mellon (b 1801) lived in Pembrokeshire?

My aunt, a Mills by marriage, has done all this work and I haven't gone any further except for my own fathers side.  My grandfather (Harry or Henry), was 1 of 13 kids to James b1858, and Jessie Mills b1866, (John and Elizabeths 3rd child, 2nd son). Jessies father came out from England on the ship 'Great Britain' in 1862 with his widowed mother, married in Melbourne and had 10 kids - but a different family to the one you are looking for.

I have recently driven up from Melb. with my father (90yrs) and sister to the areas from which the Mills family came. i.e. Avenel, Katamatite, Bunganail etc. James Mills owned properties up that way and a couple of cousins up there are still alive. There is a story that the Kelly gang did rob a couple of uncles of their lunches one fine day and also that James owned a share in a gold mine for a short time. Fat lot of good that did him. They were a poor family of farmers, raising 13 kids in 2 separate houses on the 'Boozey' creek.

I hope that is of some help with your research.  REGARDS WENDY

Sorry....I should have included that it stated that he was the eldest son....fairly elusive character prior to his marriage.....
