Palestine police
« on: Friday 14 September 12 12:47 BST (UK) »
Hi Im hoping that someone can help me with my great uncle George William Kelly b 1909 in Kilsyth Scotland. We know very little about him other than he was a lance corporal in what looks like the uniform of the Argyll and Sutherlands,he was a regular and enlisted  some time in the 1920s or 30s.After ww2 he joined the Palestine police. When he left the army ? date he took up residence in London. According to family history  he married twice, but we have no evidence to substantiate this,(or names of his wives, his second wife was possibly from Wales first name Ray)His parents were Joseph and Margaret.I know that this is a long shot but I would be delighted with any help/tips offered, thanks Jasiain :)

Hi Jasiain

I've had a look at the GSM Palestine 1945-48 medal roll and there is no G (or G.W.) Kelly of any unit on them so it's a bit of a mystery. Anyone in the Palestine Police between the end of WW2 and the foundation of the State of Israel in 1948 would have received the medal.

David

I have no record either of a George William Kelly serving in the PP. Perhaps he was stationed in Palestine with the army after the war?

Many thanks for the replies, I am at a loss with this man ??? anything we know about him was from memory as my dad only met him a couple of times. I now know that he died in 1992 in Southwark in London, his second wife was Rachel Jones but with regards to his army career?????

Did a little more digging and discovered that the Argyll and Sutherlands were sent to Palestine in 1945  :)
Thanks again
