William Lewis, Broxtowe Mansfield
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 16:31 BST (UK) »
I have come to an abrubt halt on William Lewis who was born in 1801 or 1803 in Mansfield Broxtoe (north division).  On the census returns I have been unable to read his address or occupation.  I know he married Anne Slack in 1834.  Do you think I have any chance, and if so how, of finding their parents?
Another query is that all his decendants were coal miners from Mansfield and Eckington in Derbyshire.  Would I be able to find any references as to where they worked?
Many thanks.

Hi Jackie,
Thanks so much for your prompt response.  Your eyes are certainly better than mine!
I have a feeling Charlotte could be Anne's sister as she pops up in a later census.

There are more complications now!  I have from Pallot's Marriage Index - William Lewis' marriage to Anne Slack in 1834 BUT I have just found some information about him on Ancestry where it says he married an Anne Hardy not Slack!

You were right about the first marriage.  It appears he married Jane Baxter in 1823 and they had a daughter Charloote.

I think I have to do more digging!

What a quick response to my problem; thank you!  That information does look promising.  Rather than presume, is there any way I confirm it is William?

Thanks for all your efforts Nottsgirl.

I think I won't be able to move forward until I receive the birth certificate of William and Anne 's son Joseph who was born in 1846, that should confirm who the Mum was.
