Saw your query and thought I would check it out for you.  I live in Buncrana and have checked the marriage records you require.

Edward Doherty married Francis Duggan on 25 August 1878 in St Mary's Church Cockhill which is just outside Buncrana.  The witnesses were Daniel Grant & Bridget Duggan.  Unfortunately the records do not say who their parents were but if you contact the civil registration office in Letterkenny with the details above they will be able to issue a certificate and from that you will have both fathers names.  Civil Registration Telephone number is 074 9124576.

Thanks, Marie. That gets me one step closer. Plus, it tells me that my great grandmother Fanny probably had a sister named Bridget, unless of course that was her mother present as a witness. I appreciate your help!

Hi Marie,
I obtained the certificate for the marriage of Edward Doherty and Fanny Duggan, and now know their fathers to be Patrick Doherty and John Duggan. The residence at time of marriage listed for Frances Duggan is Luddan, which makes sense to me, but for Edward it's Moyle. Is Moyle located in Buncrana too, or somewhere else? The later generations of Dohertys were in Luddan, Lower Fahan, but I'm trying to figure out where to look now for Patrick. Any thoughts on Moyle?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Eleanor

Eleanor

Glad to hear you are now a step further back in your research.  My understanding is the the Moyle is, if you like, over the hill from Ludden towards Buncrana.  I will check out an ordance survey map and see if I can get the co-ordinates for you.

Regards
Marie
