Alice & Daniel mcmillan

Daniel & Alice married in Glasgow on the 21st of April1885. Daniel was a widower aged 33. How can I find out who his first wife was?

Does the 1891 census show any children born before 1885?  If so - you could lookup the birth on Scotlands People

I can't see an 1891 or 1901 entry for a Daniel McMillan married to an Alice

Does his death record give his 1st wife's name?

Found Alice in 1891 (I think) 38 King St Glasgow aged 34 occ shopkeeper.  has a 2yr old son Daniel b Glasgow

He died in 1889 one week after his son Daniel was born he died at sea.

Carole W  He was born in Glasgow as far as I am aware  the 1891 census you have is the correct one. She remarried shortly after that. Just can't find any info on 1st wife no name.

From the 1885 marriage cert - who were his parents?

You would need to search SP for Daniel McMillan marriages and match the entries to his parents

It sounds as though he was a mariner and there is an 1881 entry for a Daniel McMillan b 1855 Saltcoats Ayr - a little younger I know - he was moored in Lisbon aboard the Iberia on census night

The 1861 census shows his mother as Margaret

Assuming his age is right giving him a birth c1852 you could check marriages for him 1868-1885 and cross reference with female deaths for his 1st wife
