« on: Wednesday 12 September 12 17:25 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone knows where the Eastville Workhouse records (1913) are kept and may be going there in the near future?? I would really appreciate it if someone would be willing to look for a record relating to my Great Grandma for me

My father Victor William Welchman was placed in Eastville Workhouse Bristol age 1week in 1910. Would I  be able to find a record of this in Bristol records office. He was moved to the cottage homes in Fishponds road when he was 3yrs old, where he remained until he was 14yrs old?

Hi, I have been told that virtually all of the Eastville Workhouse records were destroyed in 1940 during an air raid. However, I was able to obtain a copy of the Creed register relating to my GGrandmother from Bristol Records office. The Creed register contains brief details of the person on admission to the workhouse, including reason for admission. Hope this helps, please let me know if you find anything else relating to the period around 1913

Make sure you distinguish between Stapleton Workhouse (City of Bristol) and Eastville Workhouse (Barton Regis - including many Bristol suburbs). They were quite close to each other. Only the Bristol City records were destroyed - I recently consulted the birth register for Eastville at the Bristol RO for the period 1917-19

Thanks Steve I am a bit confused now though, it was Bristol Records Office that told me that most of the records for Eastville Workhouse had been destroyed!

I was looking at the Eastville records the other week. They start at around 1870 onwards.

Sorry Mo but I won't be visiting Bristol RO in the near future. It might be worth posting a new request on the Glos Forum in case someone can go. Alternatively the staff there will do research for you (for a fee)
